Topic: What were the medical advancements and experiments that occurred due to the interment of the Jews during WW2?
Medical advancements were a series of medical experiments preformed on a large number of prisoners (Jews) including children from across the world, this was known as the Nazi human experimentation. This occurred to design and help aid the German military personnel in combat situations, design new and improved weapons and aid those injured soldiers to make the recovery quicker. Experiments such as freezing/hypothermia, infectious disease and the very popular experiment was the Twins.
During WW2 these experiments conducted for the benefits of the German military to aid and improve on their war systems and first aid development. Freezing/hypothermia experiment was held out by high demands from the German army due to their loss of soldiers who battled the extreme and harsh cold weather. The experiments were divided into 2 main parts which were to see how long it would take to lower the body temperature to a death level and second how to unfreeze and bring back to life a frozen victim. The victims were either put into a tank of extreme low temperature or put outside naked in sub zero temperatures. The icy tank was the most affective experiment but many victims died during the experiment and those who survived, rewarming them was attempted in many ways.
Another common experiment that happened in WW2 was the infectious disease. This trial aimed to develop and test pharmaceuticals and treatment methods for illness and injuries which German soldiers encountered in the battlefield. Scientists tested immunizations compounds for the treatment and prevention of spreading of contagious diseases such as malaria, typhus, tuberculosis, typhoid fever, yellow fever and infectious hepatitis. Over 1,000 Jewish victims were tested on and many died during these experiments due to the severe pain and suffered permanent disability.
The Twins was a very popular experiment that was preformed by Josef Mengele in 1934 to 1944. This scientist preformed experiments on 1,500 sets of imprisoned twins in Auschwitz and only around 200 people survived these studies. The twins were arranged by sex, age and were kept in barracks between experiments. Experiments ranged from different dyes that would be injected into the eyes of the twins to see if whether it would change color to sewing them together in order to create conjoined twins. After the living data was extracted from the twins, a single dose of chloroform was injected into the heart and caution was taken to make sure they died at the same time. The twins were then dissected and the organs sent to research centres.
In conclusion, in WW2, a number of German physicians conducted painful and deadly experiments on thousands of Jewish prisoners without their consent. These ‘Doctors’ underwent a long way to advance medicine and to create new and improved weapons, treatments and ways to improve the health of many German soldiers. They inflicted pain, death and many horrible experiments on many innocent lives of Jews and other races during WW2. Thus, these ‘Doctors’ deeds were nothing but pure evil and took lives of others for the sake of new discoveries and they betrayed and corrupted the definition of what a doctor really is.
