Battle of the Atlantic: German submarines sank thousands of ships carrying supplies to Britain, until the allies stopped them in 1943, using better radar and anti-submarines ships.
Hiroshima and Nagasaki: August 9th 1945, an American B-29 bomber dropped the world’s first atomic bomb over the Japanese city Hiroshima. The explosion wiped out 90% of the city and immediately killed 80,000 people plus tens of thousands more from the radiation later. Three days later the devastation continued as a second B-29 atomic bomb was dropped over the city of Nagasaki and killed another 40,000 people. Two weeks later on august 25th, the Emperor of Japan, Hirohito announced his country’s surrender – “a new and most cruel bomb”.
Pearl Harbour: A Japanese surprise attack Sunday December 7th 1941 destroyed this US navy base in Hawaii, promoting the US to join the war. The attack on Pearl Harbour killed more than 2000 military and civilians, after this horrific attack the US declares war on the Empire of Japan.
